The Thrift Queen

Our Stops.

This is just a list of a few of my favorite places to wander to, all of which I promise will be worth taking a visit inside.

Thrift King: This is one of those places where I never leave empty handed! It is a rather large store with several different sections. My personal favorites are the few selves before the electronics which more often than not you can find retro cameras, and of course behind the front counter, where they keep their more expensive finds. Though may I add, nothing there is very expensive! My boyfriend, Phil, loves the game section; where we have found several neat old board games.(With all the pieces included!) There is also a large selection of furniture in the far left side of the store. We have picked up several neat pieces over the past year!

Antiques & Oddities: It is so great to have an antique shop in walking distance, and such a great one too. On the corner of Clay Avenue and 4th Street, this store front is located in what once was a very popular shopping district. The building itself is phenomenal, original woods floors and coming of age small details in the carvings on the ceiling. This shop is two floors of sheer greatness! I believe it is sectioned off by different sellers; however, it flows seamlessly together. There are times that I have to remind myself not to loiter, although it is quite hard not to pick up a book and nestle into a comfy chair and listen to one of the antique radios the shop keeper has playing. All around one of my favorites!

Youngwood Antique Shop: You know you are a thrifting couple when your first date was to an antique store. This was our first place together! I don't believe either of us have ever bough anything from here; but it is filled with eye candy! There is a stunning post victorian oven and several hidden treasures that are just waiting to be adopted! Any antique shop with a clearance section is worth checking out!

L & L Fleatique: Another two story wondrous world, now this one is part labyrinth too. Obviously divided into independent sellers it is hard to not find something that you have been long searching for! There is a section inside for everyone and the people seem really friendly too. If you have a few hours that you can dedicate just to wandering, this is the perfect place to go!

Goodwill (Greensburg): Now this is a store I have long been going to. Perhaps my favorite Goodwill in the area. For some reason every time I go in I expect to find nothing of any value, and then, BAM, I am walking out with a new turn table. This is an excellent place to look for tableware. While window shopping I found a black velvet 40's shaped dress here which I ended up wearing to homecoming. I love it!

Goodwill (Irwin): Another great shop close to home! This little goodwill has given us a nice set of speakers and a some retro tupperware. Its always great when you know someone who works on the inside! Phil's friend's girlfriend works there (that sentence seems to have so many grammatical errors) they were able to score us an amazing roll along sweeper!

Goodwill (Monroeville): My lovely friend Melissa works here, if you stop in say hello! This might quite possibly be the largest goodwill I have been to, the ceilings are very high giving it a more spaced out and cooler feel. If in need of a new wardrobe, this is the shop to stop at! Phil found a great leather jacket which makes him look quite suave; if I do say so myself!

Goodwill (Murrysville): This seemed to be one of the smaller of the Goodwills, at least one that is less traveled. Which isn't by any means a bad thing; the less traveled stores are often times the ones with the best things to find.

HalfPrices Books (Monroville): Upon entering, I get butterflies. The first time here I spent just under $100 and ended up having to buy another book shelf later that night due to the abundance of newly adopted friends. On black Friday  this was the only store I waited outside of to get in, and was it worth it! A store like this as the appeal of a book store and the nostalgic feeling of a thrift - a perfect combination!
